Which sport was first called ‘mintonette’?

Volleyball was first invented in 1895 for young businessmen who found the new game of basketball too aggressive. It was called mintonette at first, but got its current name when someone saw the volleying nature of the ball passing over the net.  The game quickly picked up popularity amongst men and women and spread to other countries as well such as Europe during WWI.
